Hello all… did you miss me?

If you've been following me for a while, you may have noticed that it's been a long time since I last posted… about 6 months in fact.  I broke the cardinal rule of blogging and just, stopped.

I pressed the pause button and took a break.  Sorry for my inconsistency… I will try to do better (although I think we've all established I'm definitely not a blog a day kinda girl!)

I didn't plan on taking a break, and definitely not for so long, but life just got in the way, and time went by quickly (as it does) and before long, all of a sudden it's March, and a new year.

So where have I been…??

Like I say, I really wasn’t planning on taking a break… and it's not like I ran out of things to say… it’s just that since November, life has been pretty full on.  Work has been super crazy, we had Christmas and New Year, and I was struggling to keep on top of juggling everything so adding blogging into the mix was just too much.

I got to the point of feeling a little bit overwhelmed to be honest - I've been putting myself under so much pressure to blog and post on Instagram so frequently, that I felt like I was losing my way.  Trying to plan in advance content for both platforms, plus take and edit "insta-worthy" images is difficult in itself, but I was trying to do that around getting everyday life organised, and posting so often just took its toll.  Let's face it - what is the point in posting substandard content that you're not happy with, just so you post every day on Instagram… or 2/3 times a week on the blog.  I would rather take my time, plan some great things, and be a bit less rigid / structured about the whole thing.

Even though I felt lost for a while, the time off has done me good.  I've had chance to try and reassess my work life balance, and how much I can do (realistically) before I crash and burn.

One thing I would like to do over the next few months is give my blog a bit of a facelift.  I considered changing my name - but got stumped on what I would actually change it TO (any suggestions welcome!) so WIIS stays for now.  I'm not a website designer, and I have very limited experience with blogging, but I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could make it look a bit nicer, with clearer and more specific topics/ themes/ discussions etc.

What has changed?

I've taken a step back to figure out what it is I actually enjoy doing, and what I want to post about (with the help of the Me and Orla Insta Retreat!) and I've set myself some specific goals around how I want to work.

I also took a look at what I wanted to give back - why should you read my blog, or like my pictures?  What do you want to see?  I came up with some ideas of things I wanted to share, like how I juggle being a mum with a full time, demanding job… or what it's like to be in an enterprise role in a technology company as a woman (when there are so few of us) and how that affects my  working life.  I want to share little bits of advice, life hacks that I've found useful… recipes (we all know I love to cook!) whether that is something toddler friendly, healthy meal ideas, or baking.  Style inspiration, travel tips, shopping edits, healthy lifestyle ideas… you get my drift.

I was much more interiors focussed when I started my account, but also didn't really know which direction I was headed, so it's been great to have a real think about it over this last few months and decide where I want to go with all of this.

I love all things fashion and interior related… but also I'm a bit of a foodie. I really enjoy baking, creating healthy/ toddler friendly recipes and meal ideas and I've recently made a conscious decision to give myself a kick up the butt with regards to my health.  This is nothing to do with weight loss or dieting (those that have followed me a while will know I loosely followed slimming world to maintain my weight over the last few months) but everything to do with health. I used to be a massive advocate for clean eating, and I'm a true believer that you get out what you put in, so you should be fuelling your body with healthy, wholesome, nutritious foods - which I just haven't been doing.  I'll do another post on this soon, with more detail!

Expect to see glimpses into my life from all aspects - my love of travel, health and fitness, reading and learning, my gorgeous family and, of course, coffee.  It should probably be noted that I am a sucker for a flatlay with a cup of coffee and some blooms.  What can I say, I am a fickle creation of social media!!

Time for me…

I've been taking my own advice recently and tried to slow down.  I am learning to be kinder to myself and that you don't have to have the perfect tidy house all the time… that you don't have to post on Instagram every single day at exactly the same time to please some algorithm no one evens knows how works.  I've made more time for me, more time for just "being" with Frank in an evening rather than rushing around trying to get the house in order, we've just been playing… enjoying ourselves, together.

I no longer feel guilty about not posting for a while on my blog… or Instagram… or my "stats."  I am not a professional blogger, this is not my job, and I do it simply for fun… so that's what it's going to be… FUN.  It is a hobby that I love doing, but my career, my family, and my headspace take priority.

Thank you…

For sticking with me.  The wonder of this "little" community never ceases to amaze me.

I've waffled a little (as is my tendency!) but hopefully you can now understand why I've been away and what I want to do now I'm back!!  As always I'd love to hear from you so if you have any suggestions of things you like to see, don't like to see, blog topics, name change ideas etc feel free to drop me a DM or comment below.
